2019 will be one more year for Mike’s Auto Body’s Continuing Education (CE) program, featuring another slate of informative classes. They continue to attract insurance agents from all over the Bay Area. Since 2002, Mike’s has been hosting CE classes that cover different aspects of the collision repair, insurance claims process and other relevant topics that enhance insurance agents knowledge in ways that can be used to build a stronger rapport with their policyholders.
This year’s schedule is once again impressive including presentations such as Pay as You Drive: Auto Insurance in a Changing World; The Risks of Teen & Senior Drivers; Automotive Technology’s Impact on Claims; Changing Face of Insurance Fraud (new); Insurance Ethics, There is no such thing ; ICU-Insurance & Risk in a Cyber World (new); Insurance Ethics How Many Ways Can You Say “Do The Right Thing?”

Classes are held throughout the East Bay, including Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, Brass Door in San Ramon, Mike’s ADAC facility in Antioch, SM Conference Center in Concord, Fairfield Chamber Room and PPG Training Center.
As part of Mike’s Auto Body’s continuing efforts to offer exciting and educational CE classes, Sal Contreras and Dane Dearlove have been instructors within the program for many years and are always looking to make their presentations informative, entertaining and interactive.
Sal Contreras has been teaching Mike’s Auto Body’s CE classes since the program’s inception in 2002 and is always willing to share his knowledge with the agents. “We have come a long way in 16 years. I remember that we had two Farmers agents at our very first class. This year so far, we’ve averaged 25-30 agents per class. It’s all about conveying relevant information that can help the agents in their jobs with classes that are fun and entertaining.”
Sal and Dane do everything that they can to get the agents engaged and actively participating in the discussions during every class. Sal explained. “It makes for a more dynamic classroom,” he said.
We also offer classes online for the agents that cannot attend the live classes. Our goal , as a true partner, is to make this information available to more agents, so that they can take advantage of these informative classes. Anyone can sign up for the online classes at our website as well. Everything is offered at a no charge basis.
Dane Dearlove brings his energy and passion to the classroom and he loves it. “These classes are mandatory for the agents, but many of them say that they enjoy them and look forward to the next class. We stress best business practices and work hard to bring genuine value to the process and that’s probably why we get such a positive response from the agents who attend.”
“Not every agent can take time away from their busy schedules to attend our live classes so we offer online CE classes through our third-party nationally accredited CE Providers 5th Gear LLC and PPG/Quest CE,” Sal said
We try to offer agents a series of classes that can help them and their businesses on many levels, he explained. “Our CE program is another example of Mike’s Auto Body being the best business partner we can for the agent, the agency staff, and yes– the insurance company. If we can take some key learning points that will help the agent and their staff to become more knowledgeable in the eyes of their policyholders, then it’s a win-win for everyone involved. If we can create a fun, interactive learning environment in our classes, then everyone learns more from each other and can apply it when they go back to their jobs. We believe our CE program adds to their success, and that’s why our mission is to be the best business partner possible, while creating a synergy that will enable all of us to grow together.”
Insurance agents from all over the Bay Area give Mike’s Auto Body’s CE class program five stars across the board. Norma Gonzalez is an Insurance Provider at San Ramon Insurance in San Ramon and a big fan of Mike’s CE classes, she said. “I have been attending the classes for the past four years and they’re great,” she said. “Dane and Sal are excellent instructors and good communicators and you can tell they enjoy what they’re doing. The three hours fly by and the information they give us is so useful. In many cases, I will tell my clients about some of the things I’ve learned from one of Mike’s Auto Body’s classes, so it makes me a better agent and helps me to do a better job.”
Jenny Love is also an Insurance Provider at San Ramon Insurance who sees definite value in attending Mike’s Auto Body’s CE classes and often takes them with other brokers from her office. “We need to attend these classes, but Sal and Dane make the three hours fly by and I actually look forward to the next class,” Love said. “I look at their schedule at the beginning of the year and put the dates on my calendar, so it has become a regular thing for us here at San Ramon Insurance. If I can do anything that can make me a better agent, I want to do it and attending these classes definitely helps me in my job.”
Another insurance agent who is enamored with our CE classes is Jerry Stone at Jack Stone Insurance in Brentwood, CA. Stone represents Safeco and Mercury Insurance and has been recommending Mike’s Auto Body for many years. “I love this program, because the curriculum is informational and Mike’s makes it easier to attend the classes,” Stone said. “As agents, we have to earn enough class credits to retain our licenses and these classes can allow us to do that. By enriching ourselves and learning how much we can to do a better job, it helps the entire industry and ultimately our customers. Who says that there’s no free lunch, because Mike’s feeds us every time and that’s definitely a treat.”
Gitty Khatiblou is a Farmers Insurance agent in Walnut Creek, CA who also gives much respect to our CE classes and its instructors, she said. “The topics are fresh and the teachers are the best. There are no other body shops out there that offer classes like these and that’s why we appreciate Mike’s, because it shows that they care about us.”
Lupe Velasquez is the Senior Vice President and Director of Contractors Services at Commodore Insurance Services, Inc. in Walnut Creek, CA. “I used to travel to San Francisco to attend some other CE classes, but it was a long drive or BART ride, so it became problematic,” Velasquez said. “Now, Mike’s classes are held right in our own backyard, which is excellent. Sal and Dane do a great job educating us, and we also get to network with other agents, which is awesome!”
